Did you have an ancestor in
the Civil War?

If so, please help. I would like to establish a registry of the Keiths (and husbands or children of Keith women) who fought in the war. Would be great to know, in each of the battles, which ones faced eachother, and when they camped together and fought side by side. Please state all you can, in an e-mail, or posted on Keith Forum, all that you can about the soldier and his experience. Below is a sample of what I am hoping for...a blurb written by my great-grandfather, John David Keith. If you do not have extensive material, even the unit and company they served in will suit the purpose. ALSO If you have a Civil War vintage portrait of the soldier, I will post that too. Send digitized, via e-mail, or a good copy by mail.

Thank you for your participation.

Was among troops entering New Orleans, LA in May of 1862. Also at Houma, LA. In Oct of that year, they encountered the 6th and 2nd AR troops at Perryville, KY. Night was falling, as the two sides came into dim view of eachother, and firing began. The opposing Major General, Leonitas Polk, believing this was a case of CSA firing upon its own men, rode up to Keith, and ordered a ceasefire, just at that moment realizing these were Yankees. Yet, being unrecognized, in his dark coat, Polk pretended to be Keith's superior, and rode down, behind the line of Federals, bellowing succeessfully for a halt to the firing. Once back in the woods, and making his way to the Confederate forces, Polk ordered them to reload, hastily, and pointed out the enemy, commanded by Keith.
